How do I connect the Wii Remote to the Wii/Wii U console?

Step 1: Switch on the Wii console.

Step 2: Open the back cover of the Wii Remote and insert two new AA batteries. Next to the battery compartment, there is a small red SYNC button. Press the SYNC button; the four lights (player LEDs) on the controller will flash.
